We take good care of our cars…
…so why wouldn’t we take good care of our bodies?
Most people recognize the value of how well they take care of their vehicles. Regular oil changes, air filters replaced, tune-ups and so on. Can you see the analogy? Just in the same way we treat our vehicles so goes how well we treat our bodies (which is a vehicle as well).
It is not pure luck that we get unhealthy, sick or get a disease that takes our lives too young. It’s most often because we fail to place enough value and respect for how well the human should be treated!
Tomorrow morning when you get up, think about each meal and how it can affect your health and happiness. When you go to sleep, how much quality rest you will get? And when your heart beats, how efficient is it when you exert yourself?
Our brain, heart, skin and all other vital organs need to be regularly maintained to keep us operating well and free from illness.
Just a few things to consider the next time you hear of someone who died too young!

Laughs On the Road
Bonnie and Jerry Gregory, wonderful members of Biltfit, are on a three month long road trip around the US of A. Bonnie has been sending emails and photos of their journey. Here is an email received today about conversations she overheard in Boise, Idaho. The photo was taken from a diner somewhere in Montana. Enjoy!
From a table full of guys. ” I met my wife at a church volleyball game, and just stared a hole through her jeans until she noticed me.”
A nervous young man and an older man at B&N cafe.
YM: I know I have a visa, but I just bought a dog and I think he needs one too.”
OM: ” I don’t think so chum. If you go to the INS to ask for a visa for your dog, they will declare you mental deranged and deport you. Besides, the dog is already a citizen because he was born here.”
YM: “I’d still feel better if he had a visa so I could take him home with me when I go.”
OM: Well, then you need a medical history. Like how long he has been wearing his flea collar, his blood type, etc. Did you know that bloodhounds have type O?” They are universal donors.”

We did it! The Challenge is over.
Our “challenge” was only supposed to be 6 weeks as I was heading to the Abacos in my bikini and new improved body. I didn’t go to the Abacos but I did get a new and improved body! Stacy and I also added two more weeks to the challenge as we were liking the results! At the six week point we did a “Fitness Test” with Bill.

Bill is going to be blogging about this tomorrow. We are scheduled to do a final body fat and measurement with Stacey Stone. What Stacy Stephens and I both know is that our numbers on the scale didn’t change much. We will get a full explanation as to why this happens and why we shouldn’t be discouraged!
Here’s our final photo taken at the 8 week mark! For me, the biggest thing I got from this experience is that I am now eating consciously. I am choosing what I eat as opposed to just eating it because it’s there and tastes good. Yes, of course, I am still going to have sweets on occasion, just not every night. Bill is going to be holding a nutrition seminar on September 8th. I will write more about this later in the week.

Chamber of Commerce Softball challenge

Chamber softball game at McCormick Field
On July 16th, The Asheville Tourists, in conjunction with the Asheville Chamber of Commerce hosted a “Thirsty Thursday” with a twist at McCormick Field. A co-ed softball game played between Chamber Members vs. Chamber Staff & Volunteers! Biltfit Operations Director Susan Fronsoe and Biltfit member Chiropractor Brent Myers, (both Chamber members) played against the staff and volunteers. Chamber members killed the staff and volunteers! Score was something like 15 – 2. Although there were a few pulled muscles, fun was had by all!
Still going strong! Week 4
Yes, we may have not been blogging, but Stacy and I have been working hard! We are both committed to our new way of eating and it’s really making a difference both physically and mentally. I have found this great website called the Diet Detective. (Although I dislike the word “diet”! However, it’s uses a tag line “Think before you eat.” Which for me is what it’s all about!) Choosing your foods wisely. Today’s tip of the day will tell you how many hours of exercise you have to do in order to work off that yummy chocolate shake. At 478 calories, I would have to bike for 68 minutes. Now, I might REALLY want that shake and I have an extra hour to spare, so I’ll go ahead and eat it. Or I may decide it’s not worth it. But that’s what’s so great about being in control of what goes in my mouth. Before I started this challenge, I was eating my frozen yogurt with chocolate sauce and crumbled cookies every night. It was ruling me. No more! I’m free!!

Stacy and Susan working out together
And the challenge continues!
Stacy and I decided there was no way we could be interesting EVERY DAY, so we are going to limit our entries to a few times a week. Yesterday, I was short on time so we did a 40-minute circuit (with no or very little resting between sets) to keep our heart rates up. My first thought in the morning was to skip the gym altogether, but my commitment to myself and Stacy kept me going! Sunday, I went on an amazing 7-mile hike at Max Patch with llamas!! I got a good workout, a healthy lunch and had quite the unique experience. I highly recommend it! Stacy is going camping for a few days. I’m sure she will come back with stories to tell!

Hiking at Max Patch
Day 6 – S & S BILTfit Challenge
I’m feeling very motivated these days. I lost two pounds! No sugar in six days and I am eating consciously. Stacy and I had another great workout in the group fitness room this morning. Same routine all week. We are going to change things up next week. I am seeing a little more definition in both of our bodies which is very exciting! Tomorrow I am going on a long hike with my hiking partner. She fell and hit her head a few weeks back and is finally to the point where she can get out for more than just an hour. She still has a whopping black eye but it’s looking better. Stacy and I are to reconvene and workout at 7:00 a.m. on Monday. Until then…
Day 5 – S&S BILTFIT Challenge
Eventhough Susan and I are taking today off from weights and cardio, I met Stacey Stone, fitness trainer, to get my body mass measurements. This was information that I really didn’t want to know… but Susan thought it would be good to actually “know” if we are making our body mass leaner. So… mine is… nope I’m not going to tell. I’ll just tell you if it improves! We met for lunch today at Tomato Jam which was our first visit. WOW! The food is fantastic and so healthy! We had their Friday special which was a crab and shrimp burger with a salad. We will be back!
Day 4 – S & S BILTFIT CHALLENGE
Whew. Day 4. I am exhausted. Stacy and I had a great workout downstairs in the group fitness room. Great space to workout privately. You can bring a CD and listen to your own music and use the floor space for lunges. There are plenty of weights down there too. We started a bit late and Bill’s Functional Strength & Cardio class was starting so we went to the third level and finished up with upper body exercises with some free weights and then did about 20 minutes of cardio in the spin room. Joey DeJesus, fitness trainer extraordinaire came by to adjust our form a little as we were doing our bicep crunches. As Bill always says “it’s the details that really make a difference.” Stuck with the food plan today even when I went to Mayfel’s for a delicious dinner with fellow member Beth Bertram. Not sure about Stacy. She went to LaPaz for dinner. Yum! Tomorrow we are taking a day off. My body needs it. Back to the gym on Saturday for more weight training.
